For Girls By Girls
As we hit the 3rd wave of the pandemic, it is so important to give our youth the proper tools and resources to improve their mental health and well-being. We’re so excited to partner in launching a new initiative with Chorus Music Academy for young girls ages 9-14 in York region. This project was inspired by 13-year-old Ida Maria who has struggled with anxiety and depression from a very young age. Her mission is to raise awareness about the importance of youth mental health and well-being, through youth-led programs with an emphasis on the positive impacts of music and arts.
This project presents youth with an opportunity to empower one another through sharing personal experiences regarding mental health and engaging in discussions on how to overcome these challenges. Topics range from social anxiety, self-esteem, body-positivity, bullying and diversity, and inclusion. Every workshop also includes an activity where participants can have fun and explore different music and arts. Ida-Maria will be hosting the sessions along with her friend and mentor, Carina Bianchini. Both girls are involved in the arts and passionate about spreading a message of positivity. These free workshops aim to create a safe space to connect young girls and empower each other to build confidence and overall improved well-being. We had a great first session “Healthy Mind & Body during Covid-19” and we’re excited about our next sessions.

Ida Maria’s Story and Personal Message
With the help of her family, and a strong desire to fight her struggles, she focused her energy on learning music and dance. This gave her a channel to express herself, develop self-confidence, and manage anxiety. She hopes to inspire other youth to consider learning an art form that could potentially help them with mental health challenges. Ida-Maria will be hosting the sessions along with her friend and mentor, Carina Bianchini. Both girls are involved in the arts and passionate about spreading a message of positivity. These free workshops aim to create a safe space to connect young girls and empower each other to build confidence and overall improved well-being.
Ida Maria’s openness to share her powerful story about her struggles with general anxiety disorder and depression can help so many other young girls going through a similar situation, especially during these uncertain times.
